About the Exhibition:

A figure of speech is a word or phrase that uses non-literal language to create an emotional impact, a vivid image, or a special effect. Speech, or language, describes the things we see and feel, giving rise to images. Images in turn, give rise to descriptive language. A visual work of art - or any work of art for that matter - manifests both. But is it the chicken or the egg? In this exhibition the “egg” or circle, sphere, and orb, frequently appear as the symbol of unity, wholeness, potential, and the cycles of life and nature. The rest of the elements in the composition are the “chicken.” 

About the Artist:

My background consists of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from York University. Following that, I studied for a Bachelor’s degree in Education and became a teacher. Eventually, I retired to be an artist. I last exhibited at TAP in 2024, and at the Westland Gallery in 2025. My work begins with an idea and is shaped by the challenges I experience in fashioning an object to reflect the idea. The process is often about applying techniques, tools, and materials to solve the problem. The subject matter comes from things that interest and affect me: literature, music, film, philosophy, politics, visual art, and human behaviour. I think of the finished work as an object at the intersection of intention and chance, ideas and materials, that will hopefully engage the viewer.
