About The Event
Drawing Basics
Good drawing fundamentals are an essential tool for all artists. This 4-week program is designed for beginners, as well as those who wish to improve their drawing skills. Using graphite, students will learn how to draw what they see by observing still life objects. Techniques in perspective, line, shading, and value will be demonstrated and explored through exercises and practice work. Students will develop a solid drawing foundation and be more confident in their skills.

About the Instructor:
Awadh Baryoum is a visual artist whose work brings together studio practice, research, and critical thinking. Rather than focusing on a single style, his practice is driven by long-term investigation and curiosity. He approaches art as a way of thinking—using images, texts, and concepts to explore how ideas take shape and how they can be questioned or reworked.
Baryoum’s work is informed by his background in the humanities, theory, and studio art. His projects often develop through close reading, archival research, and sustained experimentation. Process plays a central role in his practice, with an emphasis on asking questions rather than offering fixed conclusions.
He holds an MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design and has received a Fulbright scholarship as well as a research grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. His work has been exhibited widely across the United States.
