HI ANNE

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT TAP?

2.5 Years

WHAT IS YOUR PREFERED MEDIUM?

annevelum.png

Marker on vellum. After my solo show in 2019, I started playing around with vellum and a few months later I decided I wanted to work with it full time.

IS THERE ANOTHER MEDIUM THAT YOU'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO TRY?

Clear silicone (for casting giant gummies)

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING A STUDIO/CREATION IN YOUR LIFE?

As I rediscovered with the studio closures earlier this year, I cannot work without a dedicated space for creating—and not being able to create depresses me, so its essential for my work.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF YOUR STUDIO?

The size. My studio is big enough that I have the space to draw anything that I want.

ARE THERE ANY FUN STUDIO HABITS THAT YOU HAVE DEVELOPED?

I listen to the same music everyday

WHAT ARE YOUR STEPS FOR CREATING A NEW PIECE?

I don’t really do like a lot of planning or anything (I’ve never found a sketchbook to be helpful at all). Basically I have an idea for a piece and I’m not happy until I start working on it—because I have a one track mind.

CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT WHY YOU ARE INSPIRED BY THE MEMORIES AROUND FOOD/DRINKS THAT BECOME SUBJECTS OF YOUR WORK?

Being autistic has given me enhanced memory which for reasons unknown to me is mostly food/drink centred. My work is basically me recording these memories like a journal

YOU'VE CHOSEN TO WORK WITH SOME INTRIGUING MATERIALS LIKE VELUM AND RESIN. WHAT MADE YOU GRAVITATE TOWARDS THOSE KINDS OF EXPERIMENTATION?

I really like the transparency of these materials

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE SNACK TO BRING INTO THE STUDIO WHILE YOU ARE WORKING?

I always have a box of fruit gummies in my studio
